Pure lovely.
But about the music. That's 'Sakura'. Isn't the tune Japanese and not, in fact, Chinese? Or am I completely mixed up?

So, it loops automatically (and starts overlapping itself very quickly with audio).
Your art seems to be auto-traced photos.
And the only animation I saw was some fading text and a couple very, very, very short tween loops.
I might suggest sir, that if you wanted to honor your idols with an 'ode' you might consider developing a plot, story, or concept beyond a couple random pics.

Right-click, move mouse, right-click again allows cheating. Yup.
BUT.
Way better than most mouse-mazes.
The lines are clean, the moving gates and so-on, and the music are just right up there to set this game apart from all the others. Nicely done!

I like this. I really do.
But your intro builds lots of anticipation which the tune ... doesn't deliver on.
The buildup up to around :40 is *perfect*. The drums hit and your production continues to build... but around :55 seconds and nothing else really happens.
Sure, you've got the piano jam, but the piano is acting like it's background to something that doesn't exist. I would have loved to see another set of badass drums intro somewhere around the 1 minute mark and use more varied piano dynamics (playing louder and softer) and staccato, accented playing to really help carry the rhythm as a piano is a percussive+melodic instrument.
Between a more dynamic piano part and a more varied drum track (instead of just a couple-bar loop throughout the whole thing), this could have easily been a solid-10 and a five-star rating.
7 & 4 from me because the intro was so awesome, the arrangement is nice, and overall production quality doesn't seem to lack. The composition itself scores a little lower in my book, for reasons I mentioned above.
I'd love to see a 'version 2' of this.
Author's Response:
awesome my friend. THanks you for the feedback on this. This is the kind of thing I like to read. Most of my songs seem to suffer from this, where it builds and then it just repeats until it fades kinda thing. I definitely need to build more upon it, and also make the piano more dynamic in terms of note velocity etc.
For this review I will continue to work on it and surely there will be a version 2 soon.
thanks buddy :-]

You've got a long, long, long "wind-up" there. By the time you get to the "good stuff" the piano progression starts to get old. But the good stuff is good, and the pretty stuff is pretty.
Good job. ;)
Author's Response:
Yeah it does stretch itself a bit I admit. I just like the progression too much I think!
But I like to be able to make it so that a flash author can cut up the bits s/he likes, hence the different combinations of instruments appearing and disappearing.
Thanks for leaving a review and listening to this!
